Clarence River Wilderness Lodge
9th - 14th December 2006

We found this place on the internet and it sounded nice. Our route took us up the New England Highway to Tenterfield where we turned right on to the Bruxner Highway. This last stretch took longer than expected as the Bruxner winds its way up and down hills. The entrance to the property is located off Paddys Flat Road and involves a slow trip down a 7km driveway. We had the place almost to ourselves as there was only one other group who were using the on-site cabins. The campsite is right next to the river and you can bring your own canoe/kayak or hire them here. Since it was so quiet people-wise, the owners let us use a canoe for free. The highlights of our week were seeing kingfishers while canoeing and spotting the elusive platypus at dawn and dusk. Don't feed the horse....if you do he won't leave you alone...friendly but can be a bit annoying.
